From the President Bill Bauer The Kirkland Concours dElegance. If you have attended this event youll know what a fantastic experience this is. Hosted in beautiful Kirklands Carillon Point along Lake Washington, this concours has matured into one of the top 10 in the US. Unique to any on the national shows that I know, the Kirkland Concours has a boat display as well, typically featuring a dozen or so power boats. Complementing the concours are three additional motor events: the Tour dElegance, the Tour du Jour, and the Vin dElegance. This years event was exceptional, and exceptional for our club as well. We have two members on the events board: Eric Bridenbach and Dennis Rood. Id like to thank them for their efforts its an incredible amount of work that starts in January of each year culminating in the September event. In addition, they participated in the Tour d Elegance, a 3-day event exclusive to 25 cars of all makes. Dennis organized the Tour du Jour, a one day scamper around local roads starting at the LeMay museum and ending at Griots, and he chaired the Porsche Corral, a display of 85+ member cars the day of the Concours. PNWR had more than half of the cars in the Tour du Jour in the inaugural run for this event. Starting with coffee and pastries at LeMay, we noshed with our new tour mates and quickly browsed the mostly Americana collection. We could have easily spent a whole morning but a perfectly sunny day beckoned us on the road. In addition to our Porsches we had Jaguars, Aston Martins, plus one each of a Lamborghini Espada, Ferrari, Mercedes SLS, Alfa, and Corvette. Quite a sight heading through Puyallup! I had a blast driving with such a variety cars on the road and meeting interesting folks. Our Porsche Corral was astounding! Many thanks to the owners of the 85+ cars we had on display from early 356s to the latest Peridot Green Cayman R. The range of Porsche models and colors was amazing, this year including a brace of Cayennes and a Panamera that had made the trip to Parade in Savannah Ga. As I mentioned in last months column, the choice to have a Porsche gives us all shared perspective of owning an icon, and the Corral was a great opportunity to swap stories among the members. The Corral was open for viewing to the public at no charge, and we had quite a throng of folks come through to talk to the owners and view the cars. Our friends at the WWU SAE program brought a car as well, and were thrilled to get so much attention to their engineering and competitive efforts. The Kirkland Concours benefits uncompensated care for Evergreen and Seattle Childrens hospitals. Its completely a volunteer event see you next year. As usual, we do need some help to keep the club running well, so heres my appeal this month for Help Wanted: Spiel Editor Lead our award-winning team to produce our monthly newsletter 2012 events Were planning let us know your ideas!
