No specific reason was given for the fuse addition, but the wiring diagram in Figure 3 shows that the fan power is switched on by a relay and an independent lead directly from Fuse 20, the same fuse that provides the rest of the air conditioner power. If the front condenser fan relay sticks closed for some reason, the fan will run continuously whether the air conditioner is on or not and even after the engine is turned off since the S-20 fuse is hot at all times. The tech bulletin indicates that the later fused-fan wiring harness, part number 911.612.077.00, can be installed in earlier cars. Addition of this newer harness and the extra fuse may provide some additional protection for the front condenser fan motor. It is also worth noting that some owners with inoperative front fans were able to obtain a replacement motor from Bosch for less than $50 (compared to several hundred dollars for the complete assembly from Porsche).
