From the editor Barb Coplen The James Bond movies had some really great names; there was Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice, Dr. No, From Russia with Love, The World is Not Enough. One other title is the theme Im going with at this time - Never Say Never Again. Last month I mentioned that December would be my last column. Well I have offered to do one more, the January issue. :::groan::: I know, you thought you were rid of me, not quite yet! The first issue of the year requires a lot a changes as there is a whole new calendar to put together, the board and committee chairs names, photos and contact information to update, the DE, Autocross and Driver Skills event notices to revise with the new dates, and with the holidays there is more to do but not more time to do it in. So although I thought Id not be doing another issue, I will have at least one more. And on a similar note, I believe I have found a couple to take on the Spiel as coeditors. These folks are among the unsung heroes of the club. These two are quiet and Spiel Submission Guidelines unassuming, but they have been with the club for quite a while now, participate in a number of activites both on and off the track, and have a wry but upbeat sense of humor. I dont have them locked into it yet, so Im not going to name names as I dont want to jinx it. But if they do agree I will feel confident that the Spiel will be in good hands. I will not be going anywhere for a while though. I will stick around with the Spiel to help with the transition, be a resource and be backup coverage if the decide to go on a vacation during thier tenure - which is something that I had to work around the Spiel as I did not have any alternate to hand a month off to during my over five year tenure. I am also going to stick around as creative consultant and do a full graphic identity redesign to update our look and feel, and will also be the online editor, looking to get the Spiel articles integrated into our website, and perhaps put an archive of Spiel issues up online as well. Big plans - not enough time/energy to have taken those on while I was also doing the monthly production of the Spiel as well. Deadline: 1st of the month preceding the issue. Send high resolution photos via email or on a CD/DVD as jpeg, png or tiff file. Articles preferred in electronic format in body of email, or attached as .pdf, .txt, .doc or .rtf - no formatting needed. Comments or suggestions for the Spiel are welcome and appreciated. SpielEditor@pnwr.org 8 November 2011 As I was laying out this issue, I read through Jim Bells Tell me about the Good Ol Days feature and saw that this is his last issue. I would like to thank Jim for his consistent effort compiling this information - on time - over the past ten years. I will really miss reading about what was going on with the club during the same timeframe 25, 20 and 10 years ago. They had just gotten to the timeframe of when Dennis and I joined the club ten years ago and I was looking forward to reading through the events that I actually attended. I wish Jim the all the best and am sure I am not alone in thanking him for this very interesting and entertaining feature of the Spiel. Emmett, Diane, Jim, myself are all stepping back from our Spiel duties. I am very appreciative to all of the Spiel staff and thank them for their time, effort, energy, creativity and commitment. I think we have had a pretty good run! Now I will have more time to get to some of the club events and hope to see you out and about. So for the last time, I will say catch you next month! Although - I wont say that Ill never be putting together another issue. I know to never say never again. Please remember to share a bit of your holiday cheer with those less fortunate by giving to your local food bank or favorite charity. Happy Holidays!
