W e all love a good vacation. Traveling opens our eyes to the world around us and offers amazing opportunities to build memories with those we love. Whether you're planning to traverse the United States, backpack across Europe, or just visit a nearby town for the weekend, we've got some tips for how to stay safe and healthy! 1. PLAN AHEAD: Before you go, research your destination thoroughly. Know how you'll get around and where you'll be staying. Write down emergency contacts and addresses for where you'll be staying. 2. STAY HYDRATED: Drinking plenty of water is crucial for maintaining good health while traveling. Dehydration can lead to a lack of focus, fatigue, and heat exhaustion. Carry a reusable water bottle and take frequent sips throughout the day, even in cooler climates. 3. BE VIGILANT WITH HYGIENE: The best tip here is to always carry hand sanitizer to maintain clean hands, especially before eating. Also, practice handwashing and other good hygiene to avoid any unnecessary illness or infection. 4. CARRY A FIRST AID KIT: A well-stocked first aid kit can be a true lifesaver when traveling. Make sure to include: band-aids, antiseptic ointment, gauze, pain relievers, scissors, tape, and any necessary prescriptions. 5. STAY AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS: Especially in crowded areas, it's always a good idea to keep your "head on a swivel." Pay attention to the people around you. Airports, transportation hubs, and tourist locations are all targets for pick-pocketers and thieves. Do your best to blend in with local culture, stay vigilant, and trust your instincts. 6. SECURE YOUR BELONGINGS: Keep your passports, wallets, and smartphones secure and on your person. Wear backpacks or bags on the front and wallets in front pockets when going through crowds. Also, avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Use hotel safes to store valuables when not in use. Remember, prioritizing your health and well-being will not only benefit you but all those with whom you travel. Stay safe, stay healthy, and make sure to return from your trip with only the good memories you intended to create.
