2011 Kirkland Concours dElegance Article by Greg Abell, Photos by Greg Abell & Brent Jones This years Kirkland Concours d Elegance at Carillon Point was another fine showing of rare, exotic and elegant automobiles from across the last century. This is my fourth visit to this event and I am always amazed at how many of these automotive treasures are in the hands of local collectors. Im sure Pebble Beach is a must see show but this show in Kirkland certainly is a bucket list event as well. And to make this event even better, our club gets to show off our collection of all things Porsche! I have a 1980 911SC Targa in good original condition and it has a nice 1980s vibe to it. I like to show off my car but I always thought the Porsches our club showed at the Kirkland Concours were way above the level of my car. I dont know French but I do know that Concours d Elegance doesnt mean Show and Shine. But I did notice that Dennis Rood was always asking for members to enter their cars and I thought I would send in my entry and pictures of the car and see what they think. To my surprise, my car was accepted! I guess those new digital cameras can make anything look great. As the big day approached I thought it would probably be a good idea to detail the car. So after a good washing, an hour vacuuming (where did all that dog and cat hair come from?!) and after depleting a fair amount of my collection of products from Griots Garage, I decided that my car was now ready to show. As I was putting the cover back on the car, my wife asked if we could take it in 20 November 2011 to town to a dinner party that evening. Are you kidding? This is as close to perfect as I can get it and its staying in its cocoon until the show! It was at this point I thought I had better check to see if I still had more tooth brushes and Q-tips in the bathroom than in the garage the car show path is a slippery slope and has created too many garage queens. So far I think Im still able to control this obsessive/ compulsive behavior. Really!
