This year, our club also shared the space with the Aston Martin owners club and one member from the straight axle Corvette club. They all had interesting cars on display as well. The clear, sunny morning quickly turned into a clear, sunny and HOT day. Now after the summer weve had Im not about to complain. Did I mention it was Hot? Lucky for us we were right next to Lake Washington and there was a nice breeze off the water. But I did check to see if any of the beautiful classic wooden speedboats on display had the keys in the ignition just in case they were giving rides. The main show was spectacular as usual and Im quite sure the contestants in this crowd do have more toothbrushes and Q-tips in their garages than in their bathrooms. The vehicles on display were simply fabulous. The featured Marque this year was Aston Martin and early (straight axle) Corvettes. The focal point was the only remaining Aston Martin DB5 used in the James Bond movies Gold Finger and Thunderball. This was great to see as it had all the special Q treatments that made it so memorable machine guns in the grill, extending rams, bullet-proof shield and the passenger ejection seat! I remember that I had a scale Corgi Car model of this when I was a kid! Other notable entries were the 1934 Voison and the 1931 Twin Coach Bakery truck. I thought each of these vehicles were outstanding for totally different reasons but they were both stunning. As the day stretched into early afternoon, the club gave out plaques for the best two in each display category and Peoples choice. All of the wining cars were very deserving and I dont envy the job of the judges as I was impressed with the entire line-up cars in attendance. To my surprise, my car managed to get second place in the Peoples Choice category. It must have been that bus load of blind people that came thru. And on top of getting an award, I was asked to write this article for the Spiel! This THE REDMOND EUROPEAN ADVANTAGE was my lucky day. So now here I am reflecting on a really fun day in Kirkland with our club and realized that my life has changed. Before the event I was just a happy club member and a hack car detailer with a drivable 911. But now I have an award winning Porsche and am a published Automotive Journalist! You just never know what great things will happen when you take a risk and attend a club event! 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE Free Estimates Free Rental Car* Free 27-Point Vehicle Inspection Performance Wheel Upgrades & Tire Service Normal Maintenance & Repair Shuttle Service Available Track Inspections Pre-purchase Engine (425) 376-2655 18080 NE 68th St, Bldg E Redmond, WA 98052 APR Inspections Rebuilds Tuning BMW Performance Software www.redmondeuropean.com *Major Service.
