The day of the show arrives and I���m up early because, per the information from Dennis, I have to be at Carillon Point promptly between 7:00 and 7:15 a.m. to place my car. I live only minutes from Kirkland so that may explain why I showed up at 6:45 ��� don���t want to screw-up and be late on my first time there! I waited patiently down the street at one of the local parks and watched the sun come up until 7 a.m. The morning sun and clear sky was promising to be a perfect day for the show. At 7 a.m. I drove over to Carillon Point and was directed to the parking area by smiling volunteers and was quickly guided to my parking spot and very efficiently placed for display. Dennis and all the club volunteers were very professional and made placing the 90+ cars look very easy and effortless even though I know they were working very hard to make this all happen. Since the show date was on the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack, the club entrants were all given an American flag lapel pin to wear in remembrance and to honor those that were lost and those that protect our freedoms every day. There was also a tribute held at the main display field. Wow, so here I am with my little slice of German heaven and look at all the great Porsches around me! I���m glad I���m over near a corner where I���m not going to embarrass the club! As I tour the group it���s great fun to see what people have and to see the different generations of our Porsches. The 356s all look so classic and pure fun. The ���60s 911s are the next step in the breed and I found myself coming back to a particular bright orange 911 that I���m sure must have been featured in a magazine or two. But then again there���s Gary Dixon���s soft widow Targa and Randy Browning���s green coupe next to me. Both look like they just came out of the show room. The ���70s thru ���90s cars are the ones I remember as a kid and really show how Porsche expanded their engineering ability into the next evolution of new platforms and new technologies. The 914s of Mark Twete and Allan Caldwell were beautiful (I do miss mine!), the turbo 911s were fabulous as were the water cooled 928 and 944s. Next were the ���90s thru today���s current line-up and they were all great to see. While my financial reserves prevent me from enjoying owning one of these models, I certainly enjoyed seeing them up close. The GT3s and the Panamera on display are spectacular cars for sure. There was, however, Jon Lui���s brand new Cayman R in Peridot Green that had me coming back to look at several times and I thought it was just perfect. Finally, there were the race and track cars and I really enjoy seeing Porsches that have been modified. The 944 cup racer, the 356 in Mexican racing trim and Duncan Newell���s track 911 caught my eye amongst all the great examples on display. www.pnwr.org November 2011 21
